Latest news from the Essex League scene
Wanstead earned the local bragging rights with an Essex League Premier Division derby win over Ilford at the weekend.
The home side overcame the early losses of captain Arfan Akram and Jonathan Das – who both fell to Ilford new boy Hendro Puchert – thanks to half-centuries from John Chambers (54) and Kishen Velani (64).
The third wicket pair put on 98, but Adnan Akram (22) and Joe Ellis-Grewal (14) were the only other batsmen into double figures as Wanstead were dismissed for 186.
Puchert (3-27) was the pick of the Ilford attack, as Wesley Fernando (2-30) and Aron Nijjar (2-58) nabbed braces.
And openers Haaris Ayub (40) and Gagan Bhogal (25) put on 50 in reply, before slow left-armer Ellis-Grewal (3-25) made the breakthrough.
The dangerous Puchert was run out without scoring soon after and Usman Sahar (2-21) struck twice in quick succession to leave Ilford 100-4.
But Fernando (35) kept Ilford in the hunt before he was fifth man out with the score on 124 and captain Gurdeep Kandola (20) fell to Zain Shahzad (2-31), who clinched a 23-run victory when dismissing Theeban Tavarasa.
South Woodford were well beaten by Brentwood, after being dismissed for just 128 in 38 overs.
Number 10 Matthew Lancaster (35) top scored and Harry Shirt struck with the fourth ball of Brentwood’s reply to dismiss Jon Walford for a duck.
But half-centuries from Thomas Oakley (65) and Simon Steel (54) led Brentwood to an eight-wicket win inside 18 overs.
Woodford Wells beat Harlow by three wickets in Division One, after Tom Clark (3-45) and Donovan Miller (3-59) shone with the ball to dismiss the hosts for 188.
Rishabh Shah hit an unbeaten 80 to steer Wells to their target, with help from Rehan Iqbal (48) and Tim Jolly (26 not out).
Mo Ismail (92) top scored as Hainault & Clayhall made 218 against Southend, but a five-wicket haul from Zobie Sharif (5-70) proved in vain as the hosts reached their target with two wickets in hand.

Gary Edwards (56) put on 149 for the second wicket with Perry, but Hornchurch raced to a six-wicket win as Ronnie Saunders (75) and Roy Smith (69 not out) shone with the bat.
Half-centuries from Jack Cossey 67 not out) and Aamir Latif (60) led Woodford Green to 201 against Epping in Division Three and Latif (4-35) proved the pick of the bowling in a 53-run triumph.
James Foley (55) top scored as Oakfield Parkonians made 194 against Old Brentwoods, who eased to a seven-wicket win with 10 overs to spare.
