Herons beat Shenfield by five wickets on Saturday.

Wanstead & Snaresbrook captain Joe Ellis-Grewal was thrilled to see his team get their Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division title challenge back on track with a five-wicket win at home to Shenfield.

The Herons were put into the field after losing the toss, but pulled off three runouts as they dismissed the visitors for just 187.

Opener Hassan Chowdhury then top scored with 44 in reply as the Overton Drive outfit completed a successful chase with 16 balls to spare.

The victory over Shenfield came after a defeat at Billericay the previous weekend saw Wanstead slip from top spot and the skipper was pleased with how his team responded from that disappointment by winning on Saturday.

“It was nice to bounce back after losing the week before away to Billericay,” said Ellis-Grewal.

“Shenfield have some good players in their team, but we delivered a good performance that led to the win.”
