Chris Silverwood names several local cricketers in 12-man squad for clash at Chelmsford

Several local players will get the chance to impress for Essex this week when they host West Indies in a three-day Tourist match at Chelmsford.

Ryan ten Doeschate will captain the side, but Wanstead youngsters Aron Nijjar and Kishen Velani will potentially get an opportunity to shine.

Chris Silverwood has named a 12-man squad with Billericay’s Paul Walter included alongside South Woodford’s Nick Browne.

Adam Wheater, who has played for Woodford Wells this season, and Ilford’s Varun Chopra will also feature.

Former Trinity High School pupil Dan Lawrence is set to get another opportunity to show his continued improvement as well.

Essex will hope the weather can stay good after having several recent matches affected by the rain.

Saturday’s NatWest T20 Blast South Group fixture with Gloucestershire was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The Eagles recent encounter at Glamorgan also fell foul to the poor weather, so they’ll hope the rain holds off for the tourist fixture, which starts at 11am tomorrow.

Essex squad: ten Doeschate, Wheater, Beard, Browne, Chopra, Cook, Dixon, Lawrence, Nijjar, Taylor, Velani, Walter.
