Herons won by 12 runs at home on Saturday

Joe Ellis-Grewal was pleased with Wanstead & Snaresbrook’s game management after beating Chelmsford by 12 runs at home in the Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Herons were all out for 228 after opener Kishen Velani top scored with 110.

Figures of 4-39 from Jahansher Akbar then contributed to a good bowling display from the Overton Drive outfit, who dismissed the visitors for 216 in reply.

Victory keeps Wanstead at the top of the standings above Hornchurch, and skipper Ellis-Grewal was happy with how his side picked up their success.

“It was a tough game for us on another hot day against another very good side,” he said.

“We got a reasonable score, though perhaps it was a little lower than what we should have got.

“We bowled well early on and even though Chelmsford rallied a bit in the middle, we managed to close the game out.”
