The Highfield Road club didn’t need Nick Browne on Saturday as their openers chased down 233 with minimum fuss
Nick Browne wasn’t able to play for South Woodford last weekend, but in the end they didn’t even need him at Old Southendian & Southchurch!
Joe Craddock’s men secured an emphatic 10-wicket win in the Essex League Division Two with both their openers scoring hundreds chasing down 233.
Good bowling efforts from Bradley Copper (4-24) and Jake McMullen (3-46) helped restrict the hosts to 232-9 off 50 overs at Garon Park.
It proved light work for the South Woodford openers as Henry Blackwell scored 109 not out to hit consecutive hundreds while Copper top scored with an unbeaten 113 to get the visitors home in the 40th over.
Craddock would have been delighted with the result and display of his team and they will aim to build on this at the weekend.
South Woodford entertain Wickford on Saturday with the knowledge a win would take them above the third-placed side, who have 83 points – seven more than the Highfield Road club.
Browne may be in with a chance of featuring this weekend after failing to recover in time for the visit to Old Southendian.
The Essex opener had been due to play for the county’s second-team against Glamorgan in a three-day championship game, but failed to shake off his finger injury in time.
He may be fit for Saturday’s clash with Wickford, although after the openers showing at Garon Park, may have to settle for a place at number three in the batting line-up.
