Understrength South Woodford slumped to an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Essex League Division One rivals Buckhurst Hill.

Stand-in captain Richard Browne chose to bat after winning the toss, but saw Harry Neicho fall cheaply and was then dismissed himself to leave the hosts 21-2.

James Swash (32) held firm as wickets continued to fall, but South Woodford were in big trouble at 82-7.

Krishan Vadher (28) and Saihaj Jaspal (40) offered late resistance to take the innings into the 50th over and lift the total to 160.

But it was never likely to pose a serious test for Hill, who osaw Hendro Puchert hit a six and 10 fours in his unbeaten 75 from 93 balls.

Jaspal and Haider Ali Syed Zaidi claimed wickets for the home side, but they proved little consolation in a heavy defeat as Hill reached their target with 19 overs to spare.

And after taking just a single point in the loss, South Woodford find themselves bottom of the table.
