Herons recorded a seven-run win over perenial title rivals in exciting encounter

Joe Ellis-Grewal was delighted Wanstead & Snaresbrook held their nerve to beat Brentwood by seven runs in the Shepherd Neame Essex League Premier Division.

After winning the toss, the Herons elected to bat first, but were all out for just 140 after a top score of 28 from opener Aron Nijjar.

The Overton Drive outfit produced a good display with the ball, though, to record the win, skittling the visitors out for 133 in reply as Nijjar took 4-33.

With the win, Wanstead moved to the top of the standings, and skipper Ellis-Grewal was happy to see his team prevail in such a tight game.

“It was a great game between two good sides. We were a little light in terms of the players we had available, but we started well,” he said.

“Brentwood came back into it, but we put together some good partnerships lower down the order that helped us set a decent score.

“Brentwood started well with the bat, but we stuck at it, got some big wickets and kept the pressure on with some good fielding before a great end to the game.”
