Defending champions Wanstead could draw some positives from their stalemate with Brentwood at Overton Drive.

Kishen Velani fell three runs short of a century, while Jonathan Das (55) and captain Arfan Akram (36) also made starts in their 249-9 total.

And the target proved just beyond the visitors, who closed on 236-8 after a good chase.

Joe Ellis-Grewal (5-87) and Mohammed Fayyaz Khan (3-46) shared the Brentwood wickets to fall, but Wanstead had to be content with preserving their unbeaten record as the match ended in a draw.

There was another close contest at Harold Wood, where South Woodford made 225 thanks largely to Jake McMullen (96) and Harry Neicho (54).

Shahbaz Khan (4-53) took the bowling plaudits for Wood, with Kevin Gibson (2-27) and Umar Farooq (2-41) nabbing braces and the home side got to 213-9 in reply in another draw.

Raihan Hussain (67) top scored, with Hamza Ikram hitting an unbeaten 51, as Garry Neicho picked up 5-60.

Upminster’s last-wicket pairing of Andrew D’cruz and John Curtis clinched a slender win at Shenfield.

Jamie Walton (56) top scored as the hosts reached 229-9, with Reece O’Connell (3-50) the pick of the Upminster bowling.

Billy Gordon (55) and Shahbaz Butt (67) got the visitors on track before D’cruz and Curtis completed the job late on.

Ilford were frustrated by Loughton, after amassing 284-6 at Valentines Park.

Gurdeep Kandola hit an unbeaten 91 and shared 147 for the third wicket with Nigel Jacobs (80).

But Loughton made 214-7 in reply, despite braces for Irfan Sahar (2-38) and Aron Nijjar (2-71).
