Hainault & Clayhall tasted defeat for the first time this season in Essex League Division Two as they went down by seven wickets at Wickford.

Captain Zoheb Sharif (24) put on 50 for the first wicket with Irfan Shah after choosing to bat, but both fell without addition to the total.

Dominic Hurst and Sagar Joshi followed to leave the visitors 95-4, but Matthew Worsnop (20) put on 54 with Mousshin Ismail for the fifth wicket.

Ismail hit a six and seven fours in his 55, with Etinder Bopara and Ghufran Hassan (26) also making starts as Hainault were dismissed for 234.

Ismail and Worsnop had ealry success with the ball as the home side slipped to 38-2 in reply, with Joshi getting in on the act to claim a third wicket with the total on 107.

But that was as good as it got for the leaders as Dean Etchells (86 not out) and Adam Deller (49 not out) scored at a run a ball in an unbroken 128-run stand to seal victory in the 39th over.
