Darren Bicknell, Peter Such and Mark Ilott were among the star cricket names in an Old England XI that enjoyed victory against a Bancroft’s School XI on Sunday.
The home side, comprising of current pupils and Old Bancroftians, plus a few keen parents, performed well against the visitors.
Old England declared after they had reached a total of 221-4 while the Bancroft’s team finished on 215-9, with impressive batting performances from Nigel Jacob (95), Matthew Tann (33) and Vikram Handa (40 not out).
Former England and Essex off-spinner Such was recently appointed as the ECB’s national lead spin bowling coach, while Ilott and Bicknell had long periods with Essex and Surrey respectively.
As well as being held to mark the school’s 275th anniversary, the match was played in memory of Old Bancroftian Daniel Clack, who was killed on active service in Afghanistan in the summer of 2011.
A collection was taken to raise money for the school’s Daniel Clack Scholarship Fund and the Swift And Bold appeal, the charity of Daniel’s regiment the Rifles, with more than £2,000 expected to have been raised.
