Essex staffer Kishen Velani led the way with bat and ball as leaders Wanstead eased to victory over Colchester in the Essex League Premier Division.

Arfan Akram (29) made a start, before Velani hit 40 off 31 balls in a 65-run stand with Feroze Khushi, who scored 41 off 45 deliveries.

Herons captain Joe Ellis-Grewal finished unbeaten on 35 and saw Robin Das, Adnan Akram, Zain Shahzad and Jack Lord reach double figures as the hosts closed on 254-9.

And slow left-armer Ellis-Grewal (3-5) ended a 64-run stand for the first Colchester wicket, before picking up two more wickets to leave the visitors 79-3.

Velani then ran through the rest of the visiting batting order to finish with superb figures of 10-0-25-6, before Khushi claimed the final wicket to seal a 109-run win that keeps Wanstead top.

The defending champions are 10 points ahead of Brentwood with four games remaining and visit Ilford next weekend.
