Fairbairn welterweight bidding for success at the ABA novice final
Musa Hassan heads for the south coast looking to claim national title glory for Ilford’s Fairbairn BC at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth tomorrow, when the ABA novices finals are decided.
Musa, a talented 24-year-old welterweight, looks to continue an impressive run of success in the Championships when he faces Bilal Rehman, a smart-moving boxer from Lancashire’s Middleton BC in the Class A 67kg decider.
Hassan came through a tough semi-final test against hard hitting Courtney Frimpong (High Wycombe) in the Class A welterweight contest at the Elmbridge Centre, Barkingside on Sunday.
Taller Hassan dictated the long-range exchanges against his aggressive rival to build up an early lead, but Frimpong narrowed the gap in the second session, slamming home solid rights.
The Fairbairn Club hope regained control in the final round, shaking his tiring rival with the more accurate attacks and completed a points victory, winning 11-8 on the official scorecard.
“He was a tough opponent, but I caught him with some good shots,” said the Ilford club boxer.
“Now I will be going all out to win the final.”
