Gator's Jack Caward and Jamal Berleen celebrate their gold medal success in Portugal

Archant

Gator ABC’s Jack Caward and Jamal Berleen were both celebrating after striking gold at the Odivelas Box Cup in Lisbon at the weekend.

The duo travelled to Portugal as part of a London ABA Select team for the international tournament, with Caward beating Alberto Cosin in his quarter-final.

Caward then saw off Ilandis Camilo in the last four to set up a final meeting with Portuguese rival Francisco Moura.

And the hard-working Caward kept his opponent at bay with his jab, setting him up for powerful backhands, to claim gold in emphatic style.

Berleen had a bye in the quarter-finals, but beat Danish opponent Bekhan Mahauri in the semi-finals.

And that saw him go up against Tommy Libretto, another member of the London ABA Select squad, in the final, where the Gator youngster used his superior footwork and hand speed to get the better of his team-mate and pick up a gold medal of his own.
