The latest news from the local boxing scene

Ilford boxer Conor Benn is back in action on December 13 when he fights on a busy Matchroom bill at York Hall.

The 21-year-old will face an opponent to be confirmed on the undercard of Katie Taylor’s first defence of her WBA world lightweight title against Jessica McCaskill.

Benn had been due to fight on the undercard of the bout between Tony Bellew and David Haye at the O2 Arena on December 17, but that event has since been postponed.

Benn will hope to continue his fine start to his pro career next month, having won all 10 of his fights to date, with eight victories coming by way of knockout.

The welterweight prospect last fought in America earlier this month, beating Brandon Sanudo in New York, but is looking forward to returning to his native England.

“I felt ready to go again right after the win in NYC so it’s great to be on another bill before Christmas,” said the youngster, who is known as the Destroyer.
