An excellent afternoon down at Wanstead Bowls Club on Friday evening saw the Mayor of Redbridge Debbie Kaur-Thiara present the trophies for the Jubilee and Churchill Cup winners.

The competition is held for the five clubs in Winston Churchill’s old constituency and it was Wanstead Central and South Woodford who made both finals.

In the Churchill Cup singles, Peter Barham took on Central’s Paul Whellams and a late burst gave him a 21-15 victory as his opponent found it hard to cope with the increasing heaviness of the green.

Central got their revenge in the Jubilee Cup meeting between the two sides, though, despite the two rinks being shared.

South Woodford won 21-15 on one rink, but the other saw a thumping 33-7 win for Central to give them a 48-28 win overall.

The Mayor of Redbridge was in attendance for both games and afterwards a lovely meal was put on for everyone there.
