Woodford Green athlete’s Euro joy
Woodford Green with Essex Ladies’ Tiffany Porter claimed the first major title of her career at the European Championships last night.
The 26-year-old held off Frenchwoman Cindy Billaud to win gold in the 100m hurdles in Zurich, clocking 12.79secs.
And Porter’s victory came after silver medals at previous European and World Indoor Championships, as well as the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow less than two weeks ago.
“This is very special. I’d not won gold before so I’m thrilled to finally get one,” said Porter, who made a strong start to take control and held off Billaud by 0.03secs to join GB teammates Mo Farah and James Dasaolu on top of the podium on a golden night for the squad.
“When you see your teammates doing so well it really spurs you on in your event. It’s very satisfying to win,” added British-American Porter.
