Triathlete on top ahead of European test
Buckhurst Hill’s Claire Bloom was pleased to finish third at the 25th Dartford & White Oak Triathlon ahead of the European Championships later this month.
Bloom, representing RG Active Race Team Essex, had been struggling with illness recently and failed to finish an event a week earlier.
Having only completed the first transition in Nottingham, Bloom had been working on her bike dismount and the practice appeared to pay off in Kent.
Although the race was a sprint triathlon, the distances were slightly different with a 400m pool swim followed by an undulating 21.5km bike ride and 7.2km run along forest trails.
Bloom finished as third female overall, but first in the 50-59 age category with an overall time of 1:25.00 after a swim (8.17), bike (39.41) and run (35.31).
“My individual splits were solid though not spectacular, but more importantly my transitions went smoothly,” said Bloom.
“I was keen to put in a good performance after feeling so poorly last week without overdoing it, so to pick up third place overall was a bonus.
“Now I can go to Austria next week feeling confident with my racing and see if I can defend or better my bronze medal from last year.”
Bloom’s preparations have been given an extra boost with David Lloyd Leisure confirming they would sponsor her for both the World and European Championships this year.
“I would not be able to do both without their help,” said Bloom.
