Woodford Green AC with Essex Ladies endure a mixed bag of results in Mansfield.

Woodford Green AC with Essex Ladies’ women’s team finished a fine 14th in the National Cross Country relays at Mansfield on Saturday.

Following on from that the under-20 men’s team were an excellent 11th, while the men’s senior team finished 34th.

Sidnie Sales led the women off and finished in a time of 11 minutes and two seconds, to put them in 32nd.

Emily Moss ran a good 11.05 leg to leave them 19th and Georgie-Lou Sales gained another five places, after completing her leg in 10.57.

Matt Gunby finished in a time of 15.59 for 14th place after the first leg of the men’s race.

Alex Cornwell’s 15.46 clocking moved them into ninth, but they dropped down to 24th after a 17.32 run from Darren Southcott. New recruit Rob Wilbraham’s 18.58 run brought them home in 34th.

On leg one of the under-20 men’s race, James Stockings clocked 9.22 to leave them in 18th spot.

Liam Blaikie ran 9.32 and brought the team up to 12th, while Ed Shepherd picked up a place as he finished in 9.09.

In the under-13 girls race Olivia Hounsome was placed 69th in 8.57 before Bella Hoy ran 7.51 to bring the club into 22nd. On the last leg Aoife Guyatt’s 8.39 run saw them finish 26th.

The under-15 girls were led off by Jodi Ratcliff who placed 48th in 8.09, while Alicia McArdell moved them up to 35th in a time of 8.10. Abbie Dell ran the final leg in 8.54 to bring the club home in 49th.

The under-17 team was started by Amelia Barrett who ran a fine opening leg to come in 21st in 9.48.

Isobel Moss’ 11.37 clocking slipped them back to 49th, but on the last leg Jess Burgess passed 15 runners in running an excellent 9.49 for 34th overall.

Brick Lane Comedy Festival cancelled after opposition from community groups

A comedy festival in east London due to feature acts including Al Murray, Alan Davies and Ed Byrne has been cancelled because of “heavy opposition from local community groups”.
