Woodford Green AC sprinter Jeanette Kwakye won in Sheffield at the weekend

Former Olympic finalist Jeanette Kwakye looked to be back to her best, as she won the 60metres at the World Indoor Trials and UK Championships on Sunday.
The Woodford Green with Essex Ladies’ sprinter ran a season’s best 7.20 seconds to hold off the challenge of Jodie Williams and Laura Turner and storm to victory in the fastest time of any UK female sprinter this season.
The 28-year-old, who won World indoor silver in 2008, now looks certain of her place in the Team GB squad for next month’s competition in Turkey.
“It was nice to come out here and win,” said Kwakye.
“I hadn’t won a 60m here for a while, so it was nice to come here and pick up a title.
“I’ll hopefully get a few more good races in before the World Indoors and hopefully then the Olympics.
“Istanbul is something that I’ve discussed with my coach, I’m looking forward to it.”
Woodford Green’s other title winner was Shana Cox, who ran strongly from the outside lane to win the 400m, also in a season’s best of 52.38.
There was a silver medal for Tara Bird in the women’s 800m, who too recorded a season’s best of 2.05.00.
In the men’s long jump, Ezekiel Ewulo recorded his best-ever effort of 7.75m to win silver, while in the women’s long jump heptathlete Gemma Weetman placed third, also with a best ever 6.22m effort.
UK-based Polish international Robert Wolski was third in the high jump, as he opened his indoor season with a satisfying 2.20m.
