Joseph Dewar took home two gold medals from the England Schools’ Championships in Gateshead.
Dewar booked his place in the Essex team after turning on the style at the recent Essex Schools’ Athletics Championships.
The athlete, who also represents the Woodford Green with Essex Ladies club, won the under-17s long jump title in front of the Sky Sports TV cameras with an impressive 6.98 metres leap, against a 1.8m/sec headwind.
And the 16-year-old then took to the track as part of the 4x100m relay team that won the intermediate boys’ title in 42.00 seconds.
There was gold too for fellow Woodford Green team-mate Youcef Zatat, who took the under-19s shot-put title with a personal best 15.51m throw.
Redbridge schoolboy George Hadler, who runs for Havering Mayesbrook AC, claimed a surprise bronze medal in the Inter boys’ 400m hurdles, as his late charge down the home straight almost brought him silver.
His time of 55.04 sliced almost 1.5 seconds off his personal best.
Other Woodford Green athletes in the Essex team included Harry Clarke, who placed fifth in the under-19s boys’ hammer competition, with a 55.89m best effort.
George Hamilton was 13th in the under-17s boys’ long jump with a 6.11m jump against a 1.0m/sec headwind.
Hollie Patie-Belleli was eighth in the under-19s girls’ 100m hurdles with 14.87 seconds, which was slightly down on her semi-final qualifying time.
And Georgia Green, 15, just missed out on qualifying for the final of the under-17s 80m hurdles, clocking 12.10 seconds for sixth place in her second heat.
