Tara Bird set a new personal best to win the On Camp with Kelly 800metres race at the Birmingham Grand Prix on Sunday – then revealed she was disappointed with her time!

The Woodford Green with Essex Ladies athlete won her race at a packed Alexander Stadium in 02 minutes 02.54 seconds – eclipsing her previous best by almost two tenths of a second.

But Bird, a protégée of double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes, admitted she wanted to go faster.

“I really wanted to run 2.01 but the race wasn’t that quick,” said the 25-year-old.

“My race plan was to not go through 600 metres too fast and kick with 150 metres to go, which is what I did.

“I have found some good consistency after injury earlier in the season. I hope to run a 400m to finish the season and improve my personal best.”
