Sprinter books 100m final place
Ola Abidogun is safely through to this evening’s T46 100metres final and has not given up his hopes of a place on the medal podium, despite some super swift times in the other heats.
Abidogun, from Redbridge, won heat three in 11.21 seconds to reach tonight’s main event at 8.12pm inside the Olympic Stadium.
However, two athletes in heat two broke the 11-second barrier including Brazilian Yohansson Nascimento who ran a new world record 10.94.
But the 19-year-old British athlete insists major championships are about medals not times.
“To finish first I’d probably need a personal best, but maybe not a world record,” said Abidogun. “There are still a lot of quick guys out there.
“It’s a Championship so the aim is not to run under 11 seconds it’s to get into the medals.
“I felt good (in the heat). I can still perform tonight, this is my main event. I’m feeling healthy and strong and hopefully I can go quickly in the final.”
