Congratulations to Isaac Newton pupil Halema Anjum who is our monthly Young Citizen Award winner for September.

The 16-year-old from Spencer Road, Seven Kings, was nominated for getting top grades in her GCSEs as well as being a brilliant trumpeter and performing in several famous music venues across London.

Halema also mentors and coaches young musicians at the academy in Cricklefield Place, Ilford.

She said: “I am incredibly honoured to receive this award and recognition. Never in my dreams did I imagine I would get this far.”

As one of the monthly winners of the Recorder/Rotary Young Citizen Award, Halema will receive a £30 voucher from the Exchange Shopping Centre.

She also gets to attend the Mayor’s Community Awards in March, where the Young Citizen of the year will be announced.

The award seeks to highlight and champion the brilliant young people of our borough.
