Two sisters from Woodford Green and Wanstead led a team of eight runners to raise money for charity after a stroke left their mum paralysed on one side of her body.

Melissa Thorogood, of Woodford Green, and Charlotte Thorogood, of Wanstead, along with sister Lauren Thorogood, of Buckhurst Hill, ran the Royal Parks half marathon on Sunday.

Along with Rachel Plumb, from South Woodford; James Tinker, from Wanstead; Katie Weymouth, Vicky Barber, and Jack Williams, they raised more than £6,000 for the Stroke Association.

The Thorogoods’ mum Beverley suffered a stroke earlier this year aged 50.

With the support of her family, physiotherapists and the charity, she is now on the road to recovery.

The team ran 13.1 miles through Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, St James’s Park and Green Park.

Lauren Thorogood, 28, said: “My sisters and I wanted to raise awareness of strokes in an attempt to help those in a similar situation.”

The team are still accepting donations at www.justgiving.com/TEAMTHOROGOOD.
