A cook wowed judges in a national competition with an animal friendly recipe which was praised as “fantastic”.
Kate Holderness, of Wanstead won top prize of £4,000 of grocery shopping at the Co-Op in the RSPCA’s Freedom Food Compassionate Cook contest, with her recipe video for chilli con sausage.
The competition aimed to promote the importance of improving farm animal welfare.
Miss Holderness, 29, said: “I had such a fun time filming my video.
“I really wanted to enter because I feel strongly about the fair treatment of animals but I never expected to win.
“I shall be using the amazing prize to buy food for the family for a year.”
The judges said her recipe was a good twist on an everyday, achieveable dish.
One of them, Paul Merrett, called the Wanstead resident “fantastic.”
He added: “I loved her deadpan delivery and her sense of humour is fabulous – she’s a telly natural.”
