The Ursuline Academy’s newly refurbished classroom, redesigned by students as part of the Young Designers competition, was opened on Friday by Ilford South MP Mike Gapes and Redbridge mayor Cllr Gurdial Bhamra.

Plans for the school’s new design and technology workshop were drawn up to help set student imaginations free and encourage more girls to take up the subject. Cllr Bhamra said: “I thought it was wonderful to see students using their talents and I think the new workshop will help inspire a whole new generation.

“The four girls who gave a presentation on the designs all spoke excellently and were really confident. To have won a national competition is excellent and I have to say I was thoroughly impressed by the whole thing.

“It was a great day and it gives me a great deal of hope for the future when I see students like that working together to help the entire school.”
