The incident was reported at 9.20am and police and the London Ambulance Service attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Recorder had originally been told by the London Ambulance Service that the person killed was a woman, but the British Transport Police (BTP) said today this was not the case.

The police did not have any information regarding the deceased’s identity yesterday.

A BTP spokesman said: “The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The next of kin have now been informed.
