The man was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital in an ambulance shortly after 11am.

He had to be cut out of his car by firefighters after the front bonnet was crushed on impact.

Watch manager Alan Furlong was at the scene with the crew from Hainault fire station.

He said: “The man was conscious and breathing when he was taken to hospital.

“He had a whiplash injury and I think he was suffering from chest pain.

“When someone is quite elderly it does put us on tenterhooks because old people often don’t deal with injuries from a crash as well as young people can.”

No further details of the driver’s condition or identity have been released.

The coach was a shuttle service taking holidaymakers from Stratford to Stansted Airport.

No one on board was injured.
