A drain cleaning lorry and two cars were destroyed by a fire in a residential South Woodford street on Wednesday (September 26).

A London Fire Brigade spokesman confirmed firefighters were called to Onslow Gardens at 5.29pm to reports of vehicles on fire.

The drain cleaning lorry and two cars were destroyed by the fire and a further three vehicles were damaged, as well as guttering and the first floor windows of a nearby property.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Watch Manager David Carnegie, who was at the scene, said: “This fire generated thick black smoke, which could be seen from some distance away.

“When firefighters arrived they were faced with a large fire involving several vehicles on a residential street.

“Crews worked hard to quickly bring the fire under control.”

Fire crews from Woodford, Ilford and Walthamstow fire stations attended and the fire was under control by 6.12pm.

The brigade received 26 calls to the fire from members of the public.
