Rush hour is expected to slow to a snail’s pace this morning as commuters cram on buses and trains to avoid the Tube strike.

We will be following all the developments in Redbridge from stations including Ilford and South Woodford, one of the few Central Line stations with services.

The strike will end at 9.30pm on Thursday night.

Central Line trains will be running between Epping and Leytonstone around every twelve minutes in both directions.

No services will be running on the Hainault loop via Wanstead, Redbridge, Gants Hill, Newbury Park, Barkingside, Fairlop and Hainault.

Underground workers belonging to the RMT and TSSA unions walked out at 9.30pm yesterday evening over controversial plans to close Tube station ticket offices and axe hundreds of posts.

Every office in Redbridge would close as part of the plans, which will save TfL more than £40million a year.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson accused strikers of “holding a gun to [Londoners’] heads” and Mike Brown, managing director of London Underground, called the strike “completely unnecessary”.

But the unions said it was needed to try and save ticket offices and protect 750 jobs, although TfL said it would avoid compulsory redundancies.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow called the plans “a kick in the teeth” for long-serving staff.
