The Entertainers performed at Parkside Community Hall, Goodmayes Lane, Ilford, to fundraise for the Royal London Hospital Kidney Patients Association (RLHKPA).

Two members, Melanie and Alan Rosenfeld, are on the board of the RLHKPA.

Melanie said: “We love doing it, we are learning a new routine at the moment.”

“It’s fun, we don’t do it because we have to do it, we do it because we love to do it.”

An audience of 100 people attended to watch The Entertainers put on their show.

Barclays bank were present to match the receipts on the door and local supermarkets including Asda, Morrisons, Co-op and Waitrose provided food free of charge.

As well as this, Melanie said that donations were also posted through her front door.

“We came home to envelopes and we spent half the night opening envelopes,” she said.

An overall total of £2,255 was raised.

Paul Freedman M.B.E, 89, started the troupe at the age of 65. Despite saying that he would only be singing and dancing for a few years, they are still going strong.

He said: “We are in our 23rd year and we average one show a fortnight.

“We’ve got a fantastic choreographer, she’s got her own dance school. She’s really good. She picked me as her partner for the show.”

“It’s all charity,” he added.

The Entertainers tour London and Essex all year round, and enjoy putting a smile on people’s faces with their routines.

“I tell the jokes in the show!” said Paul.

Paul has no plans to slow down and will be taking part in the London marathon later this year.

He will be fundraising for Saint Francis Hospice, a charity very close to his heart, where he has volunteered every Christmas for 21 years.
