PUBLISHED: 12:29 25 January 2013 | UPDATED: 12:29 25 January 2013

A gala night at Redbridge Town Hall, one of the highlights of the civic calendar, will see unsung heroes honoured in the Mayor’s Awards 2013.

Socially-aware businesses, green-thinking groups or individuals and caring volunteers will be recognised by Mayor Muhammed Javed in the hall at High Road, Ilford, tomorrow.

There have been a total of 92 nominations in the following categories – Redbridge Best Business Award; Safer Redbridge Award; Green Redbridge Award; Caring Redbridge Award; and the Contribution to Redbridge Young People Award.

One of the monthly winners of the Recorder-supported Young Citizen Award will also be announced as the overall winner.

Cllr Javed said: “This weekend Redbridge will honour the unsung heroes of our borough.

“I am utterly overwhelmed with the number of nominations.

“It’s truly awesome that we have so many in our community who give their time freely to others.”

The awards were launched last year and proved such a success that Cllr Javed decided to hold them again.

Having a brand new kitchen is something that lots of people want but can only dream of. Sadly keeping up to date and making our living spaces as nice as they can be is a costly and incredibly stressful business. Even a fresh coat of paint makes all the difference but isn’t easy or quick.
