Pupils from schools across the borough represented Redbridge and won medals at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games final at the weekend.

The weekend’s finals saw Redbridge youngsters pick up four gold medals, three silvers and five bronze medals.

Team Redbridge came ninth out of 33 boroughs overall, taking into account performances from throughout the year.

Cllr Wes Streeting, who attended the finals, said: “The overall majority of young people are involved in positive activities and they can hopefully inspire more people to take part in sports.”

The finals saw the Redbridge badminton and netball teams win gold for the third and second consecutive years respectively, with Edmund Ashton, 16, and Lucas Negroni, 12, both of The Palmer Catholic Academy, taking individual golds in the swimming and indoor rowing events.

Cllr Streeting added: “I think these games are a really important way of giving young people the chance to showcase their talent.”

Archer Sebastian Stedman, 16, of Woodbridge High School, cyclist Tas Dias, 12, of West Hatch, and the girls athletics team picked up silver medals, while the archery team, the indoor rowing relay team, archer Cameron Hunt, 15, of City of London, and runners Isobel Mills, 14, of Wanstead High School and Jessica Anaduwe-Yee, 14, of Forest Academy all brought home bronze.
