Archant

A Seven Kings gardener got in touch with the Recorder to share his bloomin’ great sunflowers this week.

Ronkeyram Doal has got a knack for growing some of the tallest sunflower plants we’ve seen, and the pictures speak for themselves.

Usually the flowers grow to 6ft but Ronkeyram’s giant specimen has crept up to over 12ft.

The proud resident, who grew his yellow-headed pride and joy at Benton Road Allotments, Mafeking Avenue, Seven Kings, had wondered if he had beaten a record.

But sadly, the Recorder can confirm that the current Guinness World Record is held by Hans-Peter Schiffer from Germany who recorded a 30ft 1in sunflower back in 2014.

If you’ve been inspired by Ronkeyram’s efforts and would like to grow your own tall sunflower, gardeners say you should start your sunflower off in a greenhouse
