Schoolgirl Lilly Say is “over the moon” after making it through to the final round of the People’s Book Prize 2014 with her fantasy children’s book Sugar and Spice and All Things Nice.
The winner will be announced on Wednesday (28) at an annual award ceremony at the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers in central London.
The Woodford Green schoolgirl, who attends Trinity Catholic High School, in Mornington Road, Woodford Green, said: “I can’t believe it - it’s like a dream. I keep pinching myself to wake up.
“Just seeing the book in print was more than I had hoped for, but now I’m reading reviews and seeing what people think of my book.
“It is more exciting everyday.”
Lilly had originally penned book using a pseudonym - Hilda Poppit - but later revealed herself as the true author of SASAATN.
On her chances, Lilly said: “It would be lovely to win, obviously but I’m up against some very big competition and some fantastic books from national publishers.
“To be honest just to have made it this far is amazing. I can’t believe that I have been so lucky.”
