A bike project run by the Salvation Army is having to relocate back to its Clements Road site.

Around 15 volunteers were allowed to rebuild, clean and design bicycles at the Redbridge Enterprise Centre, Thompson Close, Ilford, for free.

But owners of the Redbridge Enterprise Centre have informed the charity, its workers and bikes have to leave after a business willing to pay for use of the work space approached them.

John Clifton, Salvation Corps manager, said he was “hugely grateful” for the Redbridge Enterprise Centre in allowing them to use the site during the winter months while the Salvation Army’s Clements Road site in Ilford was refurbished.

He said: “We would have had to close down over the winter for six or seven months if this arrangement had not been made.

“We would not have been able to keep it going. The project is now flourishing, thanks to the Redbridge Enterprise Centre.”

Meanwhile, the Salvation Army heard this week it can offer its volunteers, many of whom are out of work, the opportunity to earn a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) Level Two in cycling repair and maintenance.
