Redbridge’s first professional theatre festival runs next month

08:21 27 May 2014

The borough’s first professional theatre festival is being staged next month.

Redbridge Drama Centre is running the Labyrinth Festival, from June 19 to 29, with productions seen at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as premieres of new plays.

To mark the centenary of the First World War, Heydays is staged at the centre on the first two nights when all-women company The Paper Birds and residents over-55 present a history of Redbridge over the past 100 years.

There will also be new takes on existing plays. Oddsocks perform their version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the gardens of Valentines Mansion, while the Impulse Collective present The Canterbury Tales at the drama centre in Churchfields, South Woodford.

Shows for children include Theatre Button’s Jack and the Beanstalk and the interactive Let’s Build a Story, by Wizard Stories.

Productions are being staged at 11 venues including the Kenneth More Theatre, Ilford, and in libraries.
