On April 17 Borough Commander Sue Williams will lay floral tributes at the memorial stone dedicated to PC Phillip Walters, which will be followed by a minutes silence.

Flags will also be flown at half-mast at Ilford and Barkingside Police Stations.

PC Walters was 28 when he received fatal gun shot wounds to the chest, after being called to a disturbance at a house on Empress Avenue, Ilford, on April 18 1995.

He was with his colleagues PCs Derek Shepherd, Chris Joicey, Adrian Harris and Mark Rowan, and was shot as they tried to arrest a man.

Borough Commander Sue Williams said: “It is important we remember our fallen colleagues and commemorate their loss. Phillip was the epitome of everything the public expect from a police officer. He was dedicated, brave and loyal and upheld the values we all aspire to. He was a valued colleague and will be remembered by family, friends and his colleagues in the MPS.”

The service will take place at 11am in Empress Avenue, Ilford.
