Test purchases to see if off licenses, betting shops and stores stocking knives were selling to underage people were carried out as part of the Met’s third Operation Condor exercise on December 7 and 9. Officers undertook 110 compliance visits to licensed premises and found eight sales to under-age buyers were made.

The police also targeted cars without insurance, seizing 11 vehicles and issuing 19 tickets.

Acting Insp Douglas Fyfe said: “This is just one of a number of operations which are designed to identify and target those involved in criminality in our communities and deal with them appropriately.”

He thanked Redbridge Council officers and local businesses for their support.
