A campaign for action over a problem roundabout in Redbridge has garnered new support.

Redbridge Council has voiced its support for RedRag (Redbridge Roundabout Action Group), a group calling for action to make Redbridge Roundabout safer.

And the council said it will be meeting with Transport for London (TfL) over the issue.

Cllr Baldesh Nijjar, cabinet member for environment, said: “Our stance is clear, we stand with our residents.

“It is our duty to represent them and to try and find a solution to the problem at Redbridge Roundabout.

“We have a good relationship with Transport for London, which is responsible for the roundabout, and we plan on meeting them very soon to discuss what options there are to improve safety.”

Concerned residents have come together to form the RedRag group and have organised a petition calling for action.

The petition has already gained more than 2,000 signatures and the matter is due to be discussed at the meeting of full council on Thursday September 18.

Council representatives are due to meet with the RedRag group and listen to their concerns before the council meets TfL.

Cllr Nijjar added: “While we don’t control the roundabout the people of this borough have elected us to stand up for them and ensure their voices are heard by those people that need to hear them.

“We will ensure their views are represented when we meet with TfL.”
