Anti-knife campaigner Danny O’Brien is backing an amendment to a proposed law on knife crime.
The founder of Anti-Knife UK is supporting calls for people who are caught carrying knives twice to be jailed for several months. The topic is being debated by MPs and Ilford South MP Mike Gapes is among those willing to agree to the amendment.
Danny said: “Knife crime is still a major issue despite the hard work of the police and though in Redbridge knife crime is not very high, we are still getting people carrying and using knives.
“Knife crime does not only affect the victim’s family, it will affect the offender and the community as a whole.
“If you are silly enough to not understand that you are breaking the law when first carrying a knife, then you deserve to be punished when caught a second time.”
