A Redbridge school has reopened after a reported outbreak of spiders forced its early closure ahead of the October half-term.

Fairlop Primary School, in Colvin Gardens, shut on October 18 after reports of an outbreak of spiders feared to be the same species that had closed down 10 others in Newham.

A council spokeswoman said: “Fairlop Primary school reopened today (October, 29).

“The exact type of spider infestation has not been confirmed as yet.

“A pest control specialist treated a number of areas inside and outside the school with checks completed to ensure the treatment was effective.”

On Tuesday (October 23), a council spokeswoman said she was aware Avanti Court Primary Primary School, in Barkingside, had closed due to a similar outbreak.

The Recorder has approached the school for an update.
