Redbridge council budget proposals have been voted through in less than an hour after an ambulance was called to help a councillor who fell ill.

Councillors met to debate the annual budget for the financial year at Redbridge Town Hall, in High Road, Ilford this evening (February 22).

A recess was called as Councillor Robert Cole fell ill half way through putting forward his party’s amendments to the proposed revenue budget.

Councillors returned to the chamber after a fifteen minute adjournment during which an ambulance was called.

Leader of the Conservative Group Cllr Paul Canal said: “I would like to thank the members present for their sincere concern for the health of my colleague Councillor Cole.

“I would like to suggest that we proceed with voting on the motions without engaging in ‘knock-about’ politics.”

Council Leader Jas Athwal seconded the motion.

All budget proposals put forward by the Labour administration, including a 5pc Council Tax increase, were voted through without amendment.

Cllr Cole was checked by paramedics and has been released to go home.
