With the first council meeting after the general election days away, the Redbridge Conservatives have shuffled their shadow cabinet with an eye on 2018.

Group leader Councillor Paul Canal has kept Councillor Michelle Dunn as deputy leader and she will cover the brief of housing.

Councillor David Bromiley, who works as a teacher in Newham, takes over the role shadowing children and young people, and Councillor Emma Best is the shadow cabinet member for Civic Pride.

Councillor Alan Weinberg covers employment, skills and fairness, Councillor Robin Turbefield focuses on environment and sustainability and Councillor Robert Cole has the finance and support services brief.

Councillor Michael Stark will tackle regeneration, property and planning, while Councillor Sue Nolan has the important position of health and social care.

Councillor Canal commented: “This is an excellent team to take the Conservative Party in Redbridge forward and on to the local elections next May.

“I am grateful to those who have served before and am confident that this team will not only effectively hold this secretive administration to account, but will also lead us to victory in the 2018 local elections.”

  • The shadow cabinet are an interesting selection. As for the May 2018,local government elections, time will tell. If there is a good turnout by the electorate next year,Labour may have more councillors, than ,presently. Labour, had an excellent 2017,General Election, result ,with an over 9000 majority.
