The woman, believed to be in her late 70s, was taken to Queen’s Hospital in Romford as a priority following treatment for side pain at the scene of the incident in High Road, Chadwell Heath.

Fire crews from from Dagenham and Ilford released the trapped pensioner from her overturned car within 40 minutes of receiving the call at 12.30pm.

An ambulance and single responder car, two fire engines, a fire rescue unit and police attended the scene. Traffic was cordoned off while emergency services worked on freeing the woman.

In January this year, 13-year-old Bradley Trimmer was hit by a car along High Road which left him with serious head injuries.
