Oaks Park High School, in Oaks Lane, Newbury Park, wants to introduce a Park and Stride scheme in the next academic year which will encourage parents to park further away from the school building when bringing their children to school.

Karen Fage, a co-ordinator for the school’s travel plan which was recently awarded the highest Platinum level by Transport for London, said: “It will get parents to drop their children off a little bit away so they don’t encroach on roads around the school.”

Children would be dropped off at a business car park, for example, and then walk in groups to the school.

The school has a pupil-led travel green team that has been established for three years and the school has run a number of initiatives including travel green Fridays, when on the last Friday of the month staff and children are encouraged to travel sustainably.

The team monitors how children get to school and awards points to classes, with a free healthy breakfast awarded to the class with the most.
