Fire crews at the scene of the flat fire on Belgrave Road in Ilford


Residents had a lucky escape after fire broke out at a house converted into flats in Ilford this afternoon.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters were called to the blaze in Belgrave Road, in the afternoon on Tuesday, January 2.

A small part of a four-roomed flat on the ground floor and a small part of the staircase were damaged in the fire.

A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade confirmed there were no reports of any injuries.

An emergency call was made at 2.28pm and the fire was under control at 1511.

Fire crews from Ilford, East Ham and Barking fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
