Woodford Green dyslexia centre reaches 30th anniversary

An education centre which has helped generations of dyslexic children fulfil their potential celebrated its 30th anniversary on Saturday.
The Avon House Dyslexia and Education Centre in High Road, Woodford Green, reached its milestone and invited back former pupils to share their success stories.
It was opened by Sheila Ferrari in 1982 and provides children from the Avon House Preparatory School and from other schools with focused learning.
Forty different schools send pupils to the dyslexia centre and adults also take weekly classes, aided by a multi-disciplinary team of 15 people including speech, language and occupational therapists.
Headteacher Fay Cookson said the centre had made an “absolutely huge” impact on former pupils.
She said: “Young people have gone on to do brilliant things and we’re pleased to see that.
“The centre allows people to fulfil their potential, whatever that will be.“
Guests enjoyed refreshments and viewed a PowerPoint presentation of photos and quotes from former pupils.
