A ballerina from Woodford Green is dancing again after a bone condition threatened to put an end to her life’s passion.
Kerry Rhodes, of Chelmsford Road, was diagnosed with scoliosis, a curve in the spine, in her mid teens but thought she would have to stop dancing forever when the condition suddenly got worse.
The 20-year-old was in class at Greenwich Dance Academy earlier this year when excruciating pain started.
Kerry said: “I honestly thought that I would have to stop dancing, the pain that I experienced in that session was so bad.
“I couldn’t imagine putting myself through that sort of punishment at least three times a week.
“I was horrified by the possibility of not dancing and performing.”
She chose non-invasive treatment at a London clinic over surgery and is now back on the barre.
Kerry said: “Being able to dance again after having the treatment was an amazing feeling.
“I had started to get depressed about my scoliosis as it seemed to be taking over my life.”
Kerry, who started ballet when she was seven, is hoping to perform in musicals or with a ballet company.
