Woodford Green art students show their best works including 9/11 and animal testing pieces

A Level students at a Woodford Green school have been displaying their artworks at their own exhibition including paintings inspired by the 9/11 terrorist attacks and animal testing.
Kiarash Karimitari with his artwork15 students in the first and second years of A Level art courses at Woodbridge High School, St Barnabas Road, have showed their handiwork to the school over the last two weeks.
Yesterday, parents were invited to tour the selections including final pieces for exam and course work.
Teacher Nicola Shorvon, who guided the students after former head of art Sue Evans left the school after 36 years at Easter, said they had been able to choose their own themes.
She said some had been “quite dark and subversive”.
Ellen Greenstone considered the 2001 attack on the Twin Towers in New York in one of her paintings.
And Sarah Gresham-Mayers, 18, had wanted to do a piece of social commentary and settled on the topic of animal testing for inspiration.
Ms Shorvon said: “When you get to A Level, it’s more conceptual, it’s about having a concept and a context behind the work.
“It’s more in depth.”
Carrie Ward, who became head of art this month, said Ms Evans had made a “massive” contribution to the pupils’ works.
